Carolyn

Senior Graphic/Production Designer

Skills: Art Direction / Design

Carolyn is a senior graphic and production designer with significant print and digital design experience with agencies, Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, and in-house environments. In her vast industry experience in publishing, consumer goods, retail, information technology, engineering, and healthcare, she has designed products from conception to final product across various platforms of visual communication. Some brands and clients she has worked with include McKesson, Walmart, Georgia-Pacific, Costco, Kohler, Staples, Office Depot, Dixie and HEB.

A key strength is her ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels: top executives, stake-holders and in-house cross-functional teams. She uses her fine arts background to help conceptualize new ways to communicate on any idea and produce visually clean and compelling collateral with sharp attention to detail.

Carolyn directs, collaborates and brainstorms with designers, freelancers, illustrators, photographers, web developers, and printers.  She also negotiates price quotes on supplies and services, checks color proofs, and attends press checks to ensure quality printing.

In addition, she has a unique background of international travel to 36 countries with training, retreat planning, seminar events, developing courses and materials/products for leaders, international organizations and their teams.

Q: Please share your career story with us. What accomplishment along the way are you most proud of?

I was hired as a contractor in the Georgia-Pacific Pro Marketing Division to manage, create and design an online, customizable, self-serve tool for the marketing and sales team. I developed over 125 plug-and-play templates for vendor co-branding and usage of various marketing collateral for 24/7 support for internal customers. This new tool has reduced “ad-hoc” sales requests from the design team by 65%, freeing up 35+ hours/week.

Q: Please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?

I have been passionate about art since I was a child, always in some kind of art class in and out of school. I had a one-woman art show in high school showcasing my paintings and moved to New York to become an artist. I attended The Art Students League in NYC for a fine arts studio drawing. I worked in publishing before attending The Art Institute of Houston for my degree in Graphic Design. Design is my passion, it utilizes my creative talent and I love what I do. I love the challenges it brings and to see what I can create next…

Q: What would you like to do next?

I thrive on challenging projects and complex designs. I would love the opportunity to be an art director or graphic design leader and use my years of experience to inspire, mentor, and lead a team of designers.
