SEGD: Film Focus: Shield and Spear

Join SEGD for our next Film Focus event on July 16th! Starting at 5 pm EDT we will be showing the documentary, Shield and Spear, followed by a discussion with the film’s Executive Producer and one of the film’s featured artists.

Executive Producer of the 2014 feature documentary about post-apartheid South Africa, Shield and Spear, Marquise Stillwell, will be joined by South African artist, musician and subject of the film, Xander Ferreira.

Together, they will discuss the making of the film, and help us consider how South Africa’s history can be a lens to examine the current state of race relations in the United States.

In addition to making films, Marquise owns Openbox, a New York City-based design firm focused on designing equitable cities of the future. Xander and Marquise share a fascination with art and creative storytelling as drivers of political and social change.
