Dr. Joseph V. Trahan, III, APR, Fellow PRSA President and CEO, Trahan and Associates Media Relations, Crisis and Risk Communications Trainer
New Orleans native Dr. Joseph Trahan, III, has 39 years of public relations/affairs experience in government, association, education and non-profit public relations. He is the former commander of the 314th Public Affairs Operations Center in Birmingham, Alabama. With the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, Dr. Trahan has successfully operated four Joint Information Bureaus and one Joint Information Center from 1991 – 1994. Since 1998, he has trained more than 3,500 people in media relations across the United States and internationally. Dr. Trahan graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Military History. He graduated from Ball State University with a Master of Arts in Public Relations, and from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Ph.D. in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations and Advertising.
Dr. Trahan is the past chair of the PRSA Educators Academy. An accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America, he is a past board member of the national PRSA Board of Directors and a national PRSSA faculty advisor. He was awarded the Lloyd B. Dennis Award by PRSA in 2009 for Distinguished Leadership in Public Affairs. In 2016, he was inducted into the Southern Public Relations Federation Hall of Fame for bringing distinction to the public relations profession. In 2019, he was inducted into the Rowan University Public Relations Hall of Fame for lifetime, distinguished contributions to the public relations profession. He is also a longtime fan of the World Champion New Orleans Saints!
Joe Trahan, Media Relations and Corporate Communications Coordinator, Dallas Cowboys
Joe Trahan is in his 14th season with the Dallas Cowboys as the Media Relations and Corporate Communications Coordinator. Along with being a member of the football communications staff, he is also the press contact/media coordinator for all major events at AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas, where the team plays home games, and at The Star, an indoor stadium in Frisco, Texas, where the team practices. Trahan has gained experience with the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the NCAA sports ranks, and internationally in the final season of NFL Europe with the 2007 World Bowl Champion Hamburg (Germany) Sea Devils. Trahan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Administration from The University of Southern Mississippi and a Master’s of Arts in Public Relations.
