Designers are called on to collaborate, solve problems, and create on-demand. It’s not always easy. Sometimes we cling to agendas, second-guess our ideas, fear failure, or just run dry. Creative director and improv comic Travis Sharp has discovered that the skills he has honed in the improv world for 20 years have made him a better creative professional—and he wants to share those skills with you. Through a variety of tried and true (and sometimes a little bit silly) improv exercises, he’ll teach designers to embrace their inner “Yes, and…” in a fun and interactive 2-hour session custom-crafted for designers only.
For Travis Sharp, improv comedy and creative direction aren’t two separate careers. It’s one pursuit. For 25 years, Travis’s day job has been as a professional creative. He’s donned the titles Graphic Designer, Art Director, and Creative Director in that time. For 20 years on evenings, weekends, and carefully scheduled tours he takes the stage as an improv comic, performing at Atlanta’s Dad’s Garage as well as theatres around the nation and festivals around the world.
Over the decades Travis has realized how beneficial the tools of improv have been in his creative career. They make brainstorming, presenting, collaborating, and risk-taking more fluid, natural, and fun. So he created a curriculum that brings together improv and creative skills for designers, art directors, and writers.
During the day, Travis is Creative Director at SharpCase Creative. On any given evening, you might find him on stage at Atlanta’s Dad’s Garage.
