Whose land are we on? How do we honor the land and the lives of those who took care of it before us?
Join MODA in the discussion of Native/Indigenous design practices and the ways in which designers are incorporating and approaching projects with this knowledge in mind. We will introduce tools and ideas to inspire designers and non-designers to think about their projects, neighborhoods, and cities in a holistic way.
This free course, presented by MODA, is intended for designers, non-designers, activists, organizers, and individuals interested in more equitable approaches to architecture and urbanism. The goal of this course is to provide an overview of the Design Justice movement, present case studies in action, and share further insights, tools, and resources. Participants will learn to define, ideate, and respond to injustices within their own communities. Classes will be informative, collaborative, and interactive. Ideas, tips, and suggestions from experts will be presented to encourage participants to take action beyond the course.
Participants Will:
Gain a clear understanding of how they can create change in their communities through design.
Learn to identify injustice and inequity within the built environment and how that has and continues to perpetuate.
Learn to prototype responses and actions.
Generate a response to a design issue in their own community.
Work collaboratively across disciplines with one another.
Gain competency in the design process and design thinking.
