IABC | Diversity Equity and Inclusion – Continuing The Momentum As A Business Priority

Learn how to keep diversity, equity and inclusion a priority in the face of an environment filled with a pandemic, politics and social justice issues. Executives from three of Atlanta’s iconic organizations share their expertise and guidance on ensuring an organization’s commitment to DE&I and on gaining involvement and engagement in DE&I activities.

Meet the Speakers

Jo Anne Hill is executive director of Diversity and Inclusion and is making D&I part of the DNA at Piedmont Healthcare. She is responsible for ensuring that Piedmont’s employment strategies are reflective of its diverse marketplace across Georgia. She has been one of Black Enterprise’s Top Executives in Corporate Diversity and has received the Atlanta Society of Human Resource Management Impact Award. Prior to Piedmont, she was director of Diversity and Employee Engagement at Aflac in Columbus, Ga. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s School of Journalism and a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Tanya Hernandez, a recovering lighting designer and former certification and specification engineer, is vice president of Government & Industry Relations at Acuity Brands. She evaluates and influences legislation and regulatory activities related to energy and environmental issues. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University and is a registered professional engineer. She is lighting certified with more than 25 years of experience in the lighting industry. Tanya is an at-large member of the Illuminating Engineering Society Board of Directors and chair of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association’s Lighting System Division.

Sue Schmidlkofer is director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for the world’s largest package delivery company, UPS. She helps oversee the company’s strategy to leverage the unique perspectives of more than 528,000 employees to foster an inclusive culture and equitable workplace. During her 26-year career with UPS, she has held several leadership roles primarily within HR.

Sue serves on the Georgia Diversity Council’s board and the Atlanta Diversity Management Advocacy Group. Sue holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Spanish, and a master’s in Business Management and HR. Sue was named one of the 2018 Top Ten Champions of Global Diversity by DiversityGlobal Magazine.
