IABC Atlanta Luncheon: Ebola Communications: Getting the Word Out Internally, Externally and through the Media

$15 – $48The world was watching as two patients came to Atlanta for treatment of the deadly Ebola virus last summer. At the heart of the situation was Emory University Hospital and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, which collaborated to treat the patients; and CNN, which provided in-depth coverage. Fear and anxiety dominated the headlines, making it challenging to educate and inform audiences in the midst of the crisis.
At our July 28 luncheon, panelists from Emory Healthcare and CNN will discuss how they reached internal and external audiences, and also offered information to help quell fears and enable successful patient treatment.

Melanie De Gennaro is a seasoned communications professional with more than 10 years of experience in her field. Serving in the role of corporate director of communications for Emory Healthcare,
Melanie leads the strategic internal communications for the organization, including crisis communications, employee and physician communications, Human Resources communications, internal Web presence and executive communications. Her guiding strategy for success is to empower her team members to succeed. She feels that, when you believe in the full capacity of others to excel and grow, there are no limits to what they can achieve.
Vincent J. Dollard, APR, was appointed AVP of Health Sciences Communications in 2012. He is responsible for media relations, issues management, research communications, publications, web development, special events, and internal communications within health sciences. Before joining the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences communications team, Dollard served as Director of Communications in Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute, a role he held since 2000.
Before joining Winship, Dollard served as Director of Communications for the Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources where he was responsible for communicating state-wide environmental laws and initiatives to a variety of constituents.

Debra Goldschmidt is an all utility player. She spent much of her career in 24 hour cable news having worked in the medical unit, on the national desk, in the field, on show teams, feature units, in bureaus, and documentary teams. She is equally adept at writing pre-produced scripts, producing segments, booking guests, writing for online, field producing, site managing, and more. She can also handle crews, assign teams, and more and manage other logistics without hesitation.
Debra left the newsroom for a year to earn her master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and complete a distinguished fellowship in public health journalism at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
