IABC Atlanta: Employee Communications SIG

$25Dr. Samantha Nazione is a Berry College Communications professor in public relations, special rhetoric and future health care providers’ public address. (Doesn’t sound like your mama’s comms course, right?)
She and her communications students at Berry operate in what they call the Berry College COMedge. It’s multidisciplinary. It’s hands-on. It’s nationally recognized for journalism, broadcast and forensics excellence. Allie Cain and Allie Pritchett are graduating in May. Are we all ready to meet in the workforce?
Let’s chat about that for our first employee communications SIG of 2018. We’ll have our usual, informal roundtable discussion. We’ll surely talk about those generational stereotypes. (And, navigate rebuttal from both sides!) We’ll learn about what’s new in the education world and what these bright new graduates are bringing into the industry.

Meet Our Speaker
Allie Crain is currently a senior Communication and French double major at Berry College. She’ll graduate in May and put her experience with social media, internal and external communication, writing, editing and event coordination to the test.
At Berry, Allie has worked as the Research Assistant for the Chair of the Berry College Communication Department. She’s assisted with research, writing, editing and graphic design for his textbooks and manuscripts. She’s the Assistant News Producer at Viking Fusion, Berry’s student-run multimedia studio. Here, Allie leads a group of students in creating written and video news packages.
She’s passionate about writing. She’s honed her skills in audience segmentation and targeted dissemination of information during her time as an intern for Melissa Libby & Associates, a PR firm in Atlanta.
Allie Pritchett, a senior at Berry College, will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Communication and Journalism. She has four years of experience under her belt as a Videographer, News Reporter, Assistant News Producer, and this year she is the Executive Director of Berry’s student-run multimedia station, Viking Fusion. She leads a team of about 30 members in several areas including news, public relations, film, editing, and online editing.
She’s interned with WTVC NewsChannel 9 in Chattanooga, where she had the opportunity to work alongside professionals in her field and assist with day-to-day operations in the newsroom.
Allie’s work has been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists, the College Media Association, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Samantha Nazione (PhD, Michigan State University) teaches primarily public relations courses, as well as a special rhetoric and public address section for future health care providers in the Communication Department at Berry College. She is the recipient of the 2017 Eleana M. Garrett Award for Meritorious Advising and Caring from Berry College.
Her research focuses on persuasion in the context of health. She is most interested in the roles played by empathy and race in provider-patient communication.
