The wellbeing of our students, instructors, employees, and community members is a top priority at General Assembly. In light of the evolving COVID-19 situation, all workshops, boot camps, and events – including this one – will temporarily be held online.
You’ve got the design thing down. But the truth is, being successful in the world of graphic design is about more than being an awesome designer. If you want to break through the clutter and build a business, you need to do a lot more than create a portfolio—you need to brand yourself as a designer.
This virtual panel discussion invites key players in the design community to offer a rare insider’s look at how they work and create. From branding to user experience and city planning, panelists will discuss how they approach projects from a design point of view, how design thinking methods help with problem-solving, and much more. Plus, they’ll cover opportunities within the field and their vision for the future of the industry.
Kate TetreaultDirector of UX,
America’s Test Kitchen
Kate is always thinking about how to make the little things easier and more fun. At America’s Test Kitchen, she works to make the home cook’s end-to-end cooking experience (and the life that surrounds it) more rewarding. When she’s not at work, she’s hanging out with her two awesome cats, making more room for women in business, coaching students at Harvard’s Technology and Entrepreneurship Center, and imagining what a crossover Twin Peaks /X-Files episode might have been like.

Roger Zhu Senior Product Designer,
Facebook
Hi, My name is Roger. I currently work at Panorama Education in Boston, building a data-driven platform for K12 schools. Before this, I spent 3 years designing medical devices and software for hospitals at GoInvo Studio. Outside of my work, I teach sketching at MIT, volunteer with Boston Public Schools, and write about design in tech. I am passionate about connecting the product to the people and delight them with details. Originally from Hangzhou, China, a quest for design brought me halfway around the world to the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). I completed my master’s degree in Industrial Design with honor. If I were to do this again, I want to learn more about economics, statistics, and dancing.
