AIGA ATL: Creative Perspectives: Black History

February 27, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Join us for an in-depth dive into the Diversity & Inclusion topic of Black History as it relates to Design in our modern world. You will get to hear from local Atlanta Designers Sam Bass & Dorothea Taylor as they discuss their unique Creative Perspectives. For the first hour, Sam and Dorothea will present individually. The program will then flow into a moderation session lead by Deanna Clark, AIGA Atlanta’s Diversity & Inclusion Chair. We will devote the rest of the program to discussion and Q&A. Our goal is for every attendee to leave having encountered “new” Creative Perspectives.

Sam Bass (like the fish) has worked in the design and animation industry for almost a decade. He’s had the pleasure of being a part of award-winning teams and creating award-winning work for various clients such as TBS, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, TNT, AdultSwim, FX, H&R Block, AT&T, Baltimore Gas and Electric, SAMHSA, CDC, FEMA, and the National Cancer Institute. He enjoys working on projects that make him think and working with people that push his creativity. His off-time is spent working on illustrative images and animating unique graphics with silky smooth results.

Dorothea Taylor: “I’m a graphic designer/illustrator with 20+ years of experience in print design, logo design, identity development, typographic design, publication design, packaging, creative consultation, art direction, surface design, and licensed art creation.

I started a design/illustration studio, T.P. Design, Inc., with my partner in 1992. Given our design and illustration background, our studio evolved into a creative haven grounded in the idea that illustration and design should be cohesive and not be approached separately. We call our approach “designustration.” T.P. Design has been featured in countless industry publications including How’s Business Annual as a featured studio. Speaking engagements include the How Design Conference and various AIGA events. I’ve received dozens of awards for design and illustration, including a Communication Arts illustration award.

Clients know me as a highly creative designer with attention to detail and dedication to meeting deadlines. My motto is “Good, is not enough”. My weapons of choice are Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop but I also feel comfortable working with InDesign and PowerPoint. I was an Adobe Illustrator pioneer and my work was featured in the gallery sections of earlier versions as well as countless how-to books, a testament to my long-standing pedigree with Adobe products.

I’m truly passionate about my work and am always eager to connect with clients, gain an understanding of their objectives and deliver an end-product that is a manifestation of their vision. I love the collaborative process, the ideas start to flow and that’s when the magic happens.”
